Grade the trade

"In manners and customs, the trappers have borrowed much from the Indians. Many of them, too, have taken Indian women as wives. Their dress is generally of leather. The hair of the head is usually allowed to grow long. In place of money, they use beaver skins, for which they can satisfy all their needs at the forts by way of trade. A pound of beaver skins is usually paid for with four dollars worth of goods; but the goods themselves are sold at enormous prices, so-called mountain prices." -F. A. Wislizenus

Fur trade re-enactment consist of many different activities. One of those things is dealing with traders from all around the globe. Everyone has done their fair share of good and bad trades, the purpose of this page is to "put a grade" on some of those trades.

The trade is graded from 1 to 10 plews, with 1 plew being: "bad trade", and 10 plews being "well worth my catch!".

Since we are Scandinavians and most traders are not, most of our trades are done over the internet. Contact, helpfulness, accepted payment methods, shipping, price and of course the quality of the ordered item are important things considered in the grade.

If you want to contribute to this page, feel free to send an email answering the questions below.

It's important to point out that it is the experience from one specific transaction that is graded not the trader, although it might be a good indication on the latter.
